Bellagio, Italy Is A Beautiful Resort Town On Lake Como

Lake Como in the Lombardy region of Italy is one of the most beautiful areas in the world and is a favorite destination for tourists. Bellagio Italy is a popular resort town, situated on the lake, with a view of the Alps. Its nickname is the pearl of the Alps and it's noted for its buildings that are hundreds of years old. Visitors can go on walking tours to learn about the local history of the area. Cypress and pine trees line the lakeside and there are activities such as wind surfing, kayaking and jet skiing on the water.

Shopping for antiques and local crafts is a pleasant pastime when vacationing in Bellagio Italy. The region is famous for its glass blowing and silk making traditions and there are shops selling jewelry, pottery, leather, hand carved candles and china. It's also fun to explore the pastry shops and ice cream parlors.  Dining out is a treat, given the superb cuisine from the Lombardy region, which specializes in seafood such as trout and perch. Polenta is another common dish.

For the active, there are golf courses, squash and tennis courts and there are mountain bikes for hire. There are a number of skiing resorts nearby, including Valsassina near Lecco. Instruction is available in cross-country skiing, snowboarding and downhill skiing.

Music lovers have a choice of open air and hall concerts and folk music festivals. The architecture is most impressive in Bellagio Italy with grand houses and magnificent churches. Many structures were commissioned by rich, noble families of the past. The Villa Melzi D'eril, built in 1808, is open to the public and entrance includes the large house, museum and chapel. The grounds are renowned for their rhododendrons and azaleas. The Villa Serbelloni has an 18th century park that can only be seen with a guide and by booking in advance.

The Church of San Giovanni Battista is a fine building in the Baroque style with frescoes, marble and works of sculpture. The Basilica of San Giacomo dates from 1075-1125 and has beautiful mosaics and a fine altar. The town has an unusual museum, which houses navigational instruments. It traces the history of navigation through displays of solar clocks, compasses and telescopes etc. Bellagio Italy offers something for everyone but the main attraction is the splendor of the countryside. It's appreciated even more from the vantage point of the lake and the clear water on a sunny day.
