Paris Attractions
As the capital of France, Paris is a large city; sitting astride either side of the river Seine it is one of the world’s most popular cities. Paris short stays are very popular and for good reason as it makes a superb location for a romantic weekend; there is so much to see and do that often only the main tourist attractions can be fitted in.
Paris has many attractions: it is renowned for its wonderful Gothic inspired buildings and street markets; it is the home of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other famous tourist attractions. Fortunately for tourists, Paris has a first rate transportation system: the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit.
It wouldn’t be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower; it can be seen throughout most locations around the city. Illuminated at night it dominates the city’s skyline; guided tours are available where the patriotic tour guides give you an in depth history and an insight to what it is to be French.
A walk along the Champs Elysees is essential when you visit Paris; it will present you with many famous designer shops and good restaurants. This is an ‘up-market’ area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; the average tourist may find the accommodation expensive but more modest hotels can be found away from this area.
The city’s famous museum, the Louvre is huge and worth a visit if you have the time; with almost a third of a million exhibits, you will not be able to see everything in one trip. If you are an art lover then you could spend your whole short stay in Paris inside; with so many visitors (around eight million), sometimes it can be difficult seeing some of the famous works. Many well known artists spent years of their lives in Paris; these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.
The Arc de Triomphe another famous Paris attraction and was built by Napoleon in 1806; to honor his generals (and his troops) he had their names inscribed upon it. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; including all the avenues of which it is a focal point.
Certainly it is not fair to believe that these are the only Paris attractions that are worth visiting; although no trip would be complete without seeing these, they are probably best viewed as part of a guided tour, some of which are actually free. A short stay in Paris will definitely be a busy one even if only a few sights are visited; those attractions that cannot be seen will still be there the next time you visit.
