Modern Cambodia succeeded the powerful Khmer empire which, during the period of Angkor (of the IXth in the XIVth century) established the cultural centre of Southeast Asia. This empire reigned then over a territory which contained the major part of Vietnam, Laos and current Thailand and it left an inheritance of the most impressing.

The main tourist destination in Cambodia is Siem Reap and its temples of Angkor situated in the immense archaeological park. This park is the grouping of admirable vestiges of the various capitals of the Khmer Empire: Angkor Vat, Angkor Thom, Lolei, Ta Keo… Angkor Vat was moreover nomined during the “election” of 7 new world wonders.
