Considering your next holiday? Go to Vancouver
On Canada’s coast line is one of the most stunning cities in the world, Vancouver. Before the City of Vancouver was built, there were indications of Aborigines from about 10,000 years ago. This city has been the place of many different events that have sparked interest across the world.
In 1858, there was the Fraser Gold Rush, of which about 25,000 people walked over what would become Vancouver. in 1863 a wood mill was created and this and a pub was all that Vancouver consisted of, however it was a very key area for the rest of Canada providing the railways with wood. Alaska Cruises have become very popular travelling through Canada and parts of America.
Vancouver was incorporated on April the 6th in 1886, and named so to honour George Vancouver, the naval officer who was a famous explorer. Interestingly though only a few months later a fire broke out and the entire city was razed, it was rebuilt very quickly after this. Vancouver started with a population of one thousand, this grew to one hundred thousand over 20 years.
At the end of the 1920’s the Great depression got under way. This caused massive problems for skilled workers, the lack of work forced them into internment camps that were of very bad condition. These people were stuck in these camps for over 4 years, they then escaped and marched on towards Mission City in British Columbia. Unfortunately they didn’t get very far, a Gatling gun was positioned on the tracks and the people were escorted back to the camps until the end of the Depression.
Vancouver is now a great tourist destination, with a wide range of arts and cultures celebrating many different festivals. Vancouver is home to all kinds of sports arenas and some quality sports teams. Canada tours usually travel through this wondrous city.
